Zach Truax is a composer and music educator from Lebanon, Pennsylvania. Growing up, music was his passion. At a young age, his parents enrolled him into guitar lessons. As time passed, he was enthusiastic to join the band and orchestra program in elementary school. The clarinet and violin were his first instruments. By the time he got to high school, Zach Truax had made the decision to pursue the percussion section. There, he was a member of the concert band, wind ensemble, and marching band. Outside of school, Zach was taking private lessons and performing in a variety of ensembles. He played handbells in the bell choir at his local church. He was a member of the Cadets 2 Drum and Bugle Corps from 2014 through 2015. There, he played in the cymbal line. From 2016 through 2017, he was a member of the Reading Buccaneers Drum and Bugle Corps. There, he learned how to play his first brass instrument- the mellophone. After high school, Zach went on to pursue music at Kutztown University. He expanded his knowledge and ability in percussion technique, music theory, and ear training under the direction of Dr. Frank Kumor, Dr. Andy Thierauf, Dr. Daniel Neuenschwander, Dr. Marie Cadieux, and Dr. John Metcalf. Zach was a member of the KU percussion ensemble, concert band, wind ensemble, and marching band. In 2022, Zach was fortunate to return to his alma mater, Cedar Crest High School, as an instructor for the front ensemble. Now, in 2024, he strives to foster growth in musicians by making his original sheet music accessible to the public, offering music lessons, and providing support to band directors seeking to elevate their programs.
